| Artist's Statement
The idea for the theme of this exhibition came to me after finishing a work on paper that I had titled Tides. This piece was done using not only colours that I associate with our coastline, the tans and the ochres which we see in our beaches, but a style of painting which I use, an almost automatic or instinctual method of applying the paint, much like the push and pull of the tide itself. The more I looked at the finished piece and the more I thought about it, I realized that the idea of "Tides", for me, was becoming a symbol for life itself. The push and pull of the tides was symbolic of all the opposing forces we deal with, the good and the evil, the left and the right, within whose friction is contained the very celebration of life itself. |
