The Charlotte Glencross Gallery, located in the heart of the Charlotte Street Arts Centre, provides a visually unique exhibition space frequented by a diverse and appreciative audience for the arts.
Wall space in the gallery spans two floors, including the building's foyer, four staircases and a second floor landing, in a beautiful heritage building in Fredericton's downtown. New track hanging devices and security cameras, plus a steady flow of visitors, provide a safe and highly visible area for artistic works and a wide range of media.
As a hub for creativity, the Centre's Charlotte Glencross Gallery offers an authentic presentation space supported by tenant artists, arts organizations and its reputation in the community.
Exchanges – a Kindergarten-University collaboration
Exchanges is a collaborative effort between Kindergarten students at Forest Hill Elementary School and Fine Arts students at St. Thomas University.
It was organized by D'Arcy Wilson who teachers Concepts In Painting at St. Thomas.
The paintings started with 41 Kindergarten children, for many of whom it was an introduction to painting. They were provided with panels and poster paint and told to be free and creative.
Their work was then passed on to the University students who were asked to respond to the mark-making, colours and themes in the children's paintings. For the St. Thomas students, this was also an introductory class, with participants exploring the basic principles and history of the medium. They were working with acrylic paints and in some cases mixed media.
The project prompts an early appreciation of visual art in young students. It simultaneously encourages adult art students to deconstruct their own visual vocabulary to a freer and less restrained form.
Jana Alsaaq from Forest Hill started this work, which was completed by Megan Clarke of St. Thomas.
Anusha Mitra from Forest Hill provided the impetus for a painting completed by Sarah Reicker of St. Thomas.
Ruba al-Qhad from Forest Hill Kindergarten and Aleisha Bosch from St. Thomas shared inspiration on this work.
