I’d like to formally thank the city for its support of the recent fundraising Arts Gala for the Charlotte Street School project held at The Playhouse.

The Sept. 24 Gala raised more than  $20,000 for Fredericton Arts and Learning and will be a great help in the efforts to turn a historic, but neglected, building into a vital part of Fredericton’s arts infrastructure.

The response to the Gala is a clear indication of widespread community enthusiasm for the project.

We greatly appreciated the help and expertise of Playhouse Director Tim Yerxa and all of the Playhouse staff. They were consistently helpful, cheerful and competent and and it was a pleasure to work with them. Because the Gala organizers were all volunteers, we relied heavily on the Playhouse staff’s expertise and they lived up to all expectations.

We appreciate also the City’s support for cultural organizations. The assistance the city gives to an important institution like The Playhouse is one reason it can offer a reduced rate for charitable organizations such as FAL.

We hope in turn that Charlotte Street School will soon take its place as an important feature of Fredericton’s cultural life and be able to encourage other new developments.     

On behalf of FAL, I congratulate the city for moving toward greater involvement in arts and cultural organizations, and I thank you for your contributions toward making our Gala such a success.
