| The Centre's welcome extended into Maliseet to celebrate Ned Bear as Artist in Residence from June 21 to July 25. Bear is a prominent First Nations artist, mask-maker and flute-carver. He will be working with one of the 1884 beams of the old school that was removed for the installation of the centre's small elevator. | Lost and Found Our September theme-based group exhibition The exhibition committee is looking for submissions exploring the idea of Lost and Found. Where does the concept lead? Lost umbrellas, bicycles and mittens? Lost youth, dreams and loves? Artists working in any media are invited to submit up to three images. Click here for information on submitting works. The deadline is August 15, and the jury will notify artists of accepted work shortly thereafter. The exhibition will run from mid-September until late October in the Charlotte Glencross Gallery. | Our accessibility project This addition will make our building truly accessible to all people. At present, our prime performance space is completely off limits for wheelchair users, as is the basement café. Bringing food, refreshments, instruments and equipment to the auditorium is a physical strain with our challenging stairs. For more information on the project, click HERE to read our booklet. | The Charlotte Glencross Scholarship Fredericton Arts and Learning has created a scholarship honouring the late Charlotte Glencross, using donations to the organization made in Charlotte's memory. The $1,000 award for professional development in the arts is being administered by the New Brunswick Foundation for the Arts. The first scholarship has been awarded to Fredericton artist Whitefeather Hunter, to continue her studies in sculpture in Toronto, and the second to Kim Vose Jones to pursue studies in Maine. | Visual Arts Festival poster sales featuring painting by Molly Lamb Bobak support children's programming A high-quality poster for the 2009 Visual Arts Festival has been created by the City of Fredericton, and features a painting by renowned artist Molly Lamb Bobak called John, Dick and the Queen. Unsigned copies of these posters are on sale for $10 at the Centre. Special limited copies of the posters signed by Molly Lamb Bobak can be bought for $25. At Bobak's requiest, the funds raised will support ongoing children’s art activities organized by the Charlotte Street Arts Centre. The Charlotte Street Arts Centre is owned and operated by Fredericton Arts & Learning, an incorporated charitable organization dedicated to promoting education, awareness and appreciation for the arts. |
