Three shows and a birthday party
The Charlotte Street Arts Centre is having a celebration of the artists behind three current exhibitions and a first birthday party Saturday, Oct. 21 from 1 to 3 p.m.
The three exhibitions are gouache drawings of Whimsical Trees by Marilyn Mazerolle, a selection of photographs by teRi Fullerton featuring the Rainbow of Colour summer camp run by the Multicultural Association of Fredericton, and a series of quilts by Solweig Wells inspired by the damage inflicted by Hurricane Katrina.
The birthday party recognizes the first full year of operation of the Arts Centre at 732 Charlotte Street, the old Charlotte Street School.
The exhibitions will continue until mid-November in the Centre’s Grand Foyer Gallery.
Each of Mazerolle’s paintings takes the theme of a single tree, and spins it into a colourful and whimsical creation.
Fullerton’s photographs reflect the interaction of children from diverse ethnic and racial origins as they get to know and trust each other and create new friendships.
Wells quilts use fabric distressed by the forces of sand and sea to tell the stories of Katrina’s wrath and its impact on communities in its path. Proceeds from the sale of postcards go to benefit a library in Mississippi.
